The fair continues its ongoing partnership with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (de Young + Legion of Honor), which will again be the beneficiary of the opening night preview, which last year raised $40,000 for the museums’ New Acquisitions Fund.  In addition, producers Max Fishko and Jeffrey announced ongoing partnerships with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Crocker Art Museum, San Jose Museum of Art, Berkeley Art Museum, Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts, The City of San Jose Public Art Program and ZERO1. 

 

 

Thursday May 15 | 6PM-8PM: Benefit Preview Reception:
This ticketed premiere preview reception benefitting the New Acquisitions Fund at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco provides collectors and arts enthusiasts the first opportunity to meet dealers and to view gallery presentations. The SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Combo will perform before at the catered preview reception from — before doors open to attendees of the Opening Night Party from 8:30pm–10:30pm 

 

Thursday May 15| 6:00pm SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Combo

The SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Combo will welcome our VIP guests during the Benefit Preview and Opening Night Party.  The SFJAZZ High School All-Stars program provides advanced-level training and performance opportunities for some of the most talented musicians in the nation. Selected annually by competitive audition, the All-Stars rehearse and perform with today's top jazz educators and artists. Selected annually by competitive audition, the All-Stars rehearse and perform with today's top jazz educators and artists, including Miguel Zenon and the SFJAZZ Collective, Terence Blanchard, Yusef Lateef, Ravi Coltrane, and Ellis Marsalis.

 

As an investigation of the global art market Jeremiah Jenkins will explore issues of supply and demand by splitting logs of Californian Redwood, pyrographically signing and numbering the freshly cut pieces of wood to designate them as art objects.  The finished pieces of art will then be displayed and sold at the Ever Gold Gallery booth for $20 each. Collectors can then take their piece(s) home and display them, or burn them, and the value of the works will rise or decrease accordingly. Each collector will be notified at the conclusion of the fair how many works have been sold, with advice on how many pieces to burn so they can successfully create an economic bubble around this series.

A multi-generational discussion featuring artists Paula Levine, Ranu Mukherjee, Jenny Odell, and Camille Utterback. This panel is moderated by Jaime Austin, curator and director of programs at ZERO1. Although women remain a minority in executive and engineering positions in the tech industry, the reality is that female artists have long been using technological tools to create strong bodies of work in a variety of mediums that play with ideas of authorship and expand dialogue beyond the male-centric stereotypes associated with Silicon Valley. 

 

Friday, May 16 | 1:00pm: Curating In A Computer World Presented by Adobe Typekit + SFAQ

YBCA's Assistant Curator of Visual Arts, Ceci Moss, will discuss Control: Technology in Culture, a new exhibition series in YBCA's Upstairs Galleries that showcases the work of emerging and mid-career artists who examine the social, cultural, and experiential implications of technology. The solo exhibitions in this series seek to prompt timely questions about the profound and far-reaching influence of technology in our daily lives by focusing on artists whose work spans a multitude of disciplines and relates to a diverse set of issues, including architecture, acoustics, psychology, labor, consumerism, the environment, and the military.

 

Friday, May 16 | 2:30pm: Internet Artist Rafaël Rozendaal

Presented by Adobe Typekit + SFAQ

Rafaël Rozendaal is a visual artist who uses the Internet as his canvas. His artistic practice consists of websites, installations, lenticulars, writings and lectures. His work researches the screen as a pictorial space, reverse engineering reality into condensed bits, in a space somewhere between animated cartoons and paintings. His installations involve moving light and reflections, taking online works and transforming them into spatial experiences.  “I will talk about my work, how I make it, why I make it, and how it mutates to different media.”

Join two of San Francisco’s leading architectural voices, Luke Ogrydziak of Ogrydziak Prillinger and Thom Faulders of Faulders Studio, for a conversation about designing residences for leading art collectors. Going beyond concerns like light, weight, stability, climate and scale, Ogrydiziak and Faulders bring a conceptual approach to their projects to create homes that are art works in themselves.
